1840 (Glass Beads for Grinding – 18-40 Mesh (1.0-0.425 mm)) is a soda-lime glass bead used as a fine grinding / milling / deburring / peening abrasive, manufactured by Yongqing Linghang Glass Bead Co., Ltd. in Hebei, China. The bead is chemically inert, spherical, and sized for use as a non-metallic abrasive in wet or dry blasting, deburring, peening, and surface finishing of metal, stone, and plastic parts. Because glass is softer than most engineering alloys, it removes surface contamination without embedding into the substrate, leaving a clean satin / matte finish.

This grade is sized at 18-40 mesh (1.0-0.425 mm). The bead works best when the part to be finished can be tumbled, vibrated, or sprayed; coarser fractions cut faster and leave a rougher profile, finer fractions produce a smoother satin finish and longer bead life.

Sizes are quoted as a band between two screens, which is what a purchase order specifies. If your spec is written in microns rather than mesh, use our glass bead size chart (mesh to micron).

Applications

  • Wet or dry blasting of stainless steel, aluminum, copper and brass parts to remove oxide, weld discoloration, and light rust.
  • Deburring and edge-rounding of machined metal components.
  • Surface preparation before painting or powder coating.
  • Polishing of stone, marble, granite and engineered stone surfaces.
  • Peening of springs and gear components where metal shot would be too aggressive.

Standards & Quality

  • Soda-lime glass, chemically inert (no reaction with ferrous or non-ferrous metals).
  • Roundness ≥80%, bulk density approx. 1.5 g/cm3, Mohs hardness 5-6.
  • Available sizing aligned with common abrasive grading systems (FEPA / ANSI); sample sieving report on request.
  • Batch traceability from our factory in Yongqing, Hebei (producing since 2015).

Packing & Shipping

  • Packing: 25 kg bags on pallets, or 1,000 kg jumbo bags (FIBC).
  • Typical loading: about 22 t per 20′ FCL (jumbo bags).
  • Samples 1-5 kg shipped by express worldwide before your first order.
  • Lead time: samples 5-7 days; container production 10-15 days after deposit (per order).
